Who do you turn to when you want to celebrate your greatest wins, or when you’re weighed down by your deepest, scariest thoughts? Who is there to hold you up, to listen, and to help you make sense of it all? Is it a best friend, a confidant, a coach, or is a journal what you rely on to process your emotions and ideas?
For me, writing is what helps me most with ideas and to-do lists. But when it comes to the wins that fill me with joy—or the scary, overwhelming thoughts that swirl in my mind—I need someone to talk to. Someone I trust deeply, someone who knows how to listen—not just hear me, but listen in a way that makes me feel seen and understood. That person helps me peel back the layers of what I’m truly feeling and thinking, getting to the heart of the matter.
Do you have someone like that in your life? Someone who asks questions that cut to the core, questions that come from a place of deep listening and care? Questions that challenge you, that invite you to go deeper, to be more honest with yourself?
If a name comes to mind as you read this, I’m so happy for you. But if there’s an empty space where that name should be, I invite you to reflect on this as we begin a new year.
What if this year, you took the time to fill that void? Who could that someone be for you? Is there a friend you could cultivate a deeper connection with? Or perhaps it’s time to seek out a coach who can guide you? Take a moment to think about who might step into that role of confidant for you—and make it a priority to find them. It could change everything.
